The CFFA Committee met last night and has made the decision to cancel the 2020 National Titles which were due to be held in Melbourne. This decision was not made lightly.
The Committee recognises that the tournament is still 6 months away, but with the increasing level of restrictions being imposed at a national and global level there is no guarantee that the tournament could be held during September / October. Therefore, in order to give certainty to our members, players, coaches and broader Christian football community, we have made the decision to cancel the tournament now.
The main reasons for the decision are:
– The health and well being of our Christian Football community is paramount.
– The view that at this time certainty and clarity is more important for our members’ leaders. Nationals is now one less thing to have to consider and put effort toward.
– It is impractical for the CFFA and members to plan logistics and commit to cost with airlines, hotels and other providers due to shutdowns, closed borders and economic uncertainty.
– Sporting and non-sporting events across the country (and the world) are being cancelled.
This will no doubt be disappointing for all concerned, particularly our partners in Victoria who have already put in so much effort in planning and preparation for the tournament. We are thankful to our team and partners for the work and effort they have contributed so far. They can be assured that their work and efforts will not go to waste as the progress achieved will give us a head start as we look towards the 2021 and 2022 tournaments.
At this difficult and challenging time let us reflect. Our response as Christians to these challenges should demonstrate an overflowing of our love for Christ. When those around us become anxious and worried our calm and resolute faith in Jesus Christ should shine even brighter than before. It should prompt people to ask how can we be so calm in such a challenging time? and we should be prepared to give an answer.
“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” 1 Thess. 5:16-18
